In the latter half of World War II, the Wehrmacht, having lost air superiority to the Allies, rushed to develop anti-aircraft vehicles. One of these was the Mobelwagen, which was the first self-propelled anti-aircraft gun that utilized the Panzer IV chassis. The prototype, which was equipped with four 2cm Flak guns, was completed in December 1943 and the mass production version, which was equipped with a single, more effective 3.7cm Flak43 capable of firing 250 rounds per minute, was put in production in February 1944. The four large armor plates surrounding the superstructure of the vehicle could be lowered to 60° in anti-aircraft firing position and lowered completely to enable an unimpeded horizontal field of fire against ground targets. By March 1945, a total of 240 vehicles were produced, most of which were deployed to the Western front to defend against Allied fighter-bombers. The first M4 Sherman production model was designated the M4A1, and possessed a distinctively rounded cast hull. A total of 6,281 M4A1 tanks were produced between February 1942 and December 1943. Armed with a 75mm M3 cannon and powered by a 350hp Continental air-cooled R975-C1 radial gasoline engine, the M4A1 was capable of top speeds of 38.9km/h. Early versions had the M34 gun mount with narrow shield, while the 3-piece gear housing was changed to a 1-piece design in later production runs. Applique armor was often added to the upper hull and turret in order to improve protection. The M4A1 served with many armies on various fronts, including with the British 8th Army in North Africa, where it contributed to the victory at El Alamein.

This is a plastic model assembly kit of the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier CV-3 Saratoga. It depicts her as she appeared in the Battle of Iwo Jima in February 1945. The CV-3 Saratoga was launched as the second ship in the U.S. Navy's Lexington class of aircraft carriers in April 1925 and commissioned in November 1927. Fondly nicknamed "Sister Sara", she was in fact originally laid down as a battle cruiser but converted into an aircraft carrier during construction. Evolving from the Kawanishi N1K1 "Kyofu" floatplane, the Imperial Japanese Navy's N1K1-J Shiden had a unique pedigree amoung WW2 landplane fighters of the world. In January 1942, the Kawanishi Aircraft firm began adaptation of the Kyofu into a land based fighter, strictly as a private venture. This project was soon officially authorized under the designation N1K1-J, with the first prototype flying in December 1942.
